Data analytics is becoming a more thorough and important field to modern business. Analytics is being applied to everything from baby food distribution to high priced professional sports. A lot of people don’t know what data analytics really means. Data analytics is the process of looking at data sets, using various computer programs to analyze patterns and be able to draw conclusions simply for sets of data. Data analytics allows you to draw conclusions that your competitors might not. This gives you an advantage in the marketplace. If you’re not using data analytics and your competitors are, then you’re at risk of falling behind. Since Data Analytics degrees are relatively new in comparison to many courses, a lot of the degree programs offered are Master degrees instead of Bachelor degrees.

Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics:

The Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics is more commonly completed on campus. It is a 4 year Bachelor program that gives a general scientific overview and focuses on statistics and mathematics. The analytics focus comes with how to analyze the statistics from data sets and how to properly datamine seemingly random data for meaningful information. Additionally a Data Analytics degree will give you more communication skills than to a typical Bachelor degree. This is important because analytics are not always a “translatable” field. Many analytics professionals come across a lot of the same issues that IT professional struggle with when trying to explain their findings to people without the same education or skillset as them. The communication aspect of this degree will give people a better chance of communicating the information to those who need it, but don’t necessarily understand it.

Master of Science in Data Analytics:

The Master of Science in Data Analytics degree is either a 12 or 24 month program depending on the institution you choose. It’s intended for people who already have a skillset that includes statistics and computer knowledge and who would like to increase their knowledge or specifically start specializing in analytics. While more intense in theory than the Bachelor degree, the Master degree is often available online. This allows the student to work when it is best for them. This is excellent for students who are already employed and who can’t give up that employment to return for full time schooling.

Data Analytics Degree Online:

With the amount of technology available to use and used in a data analytics degree, it’s no surprise that most data analytics degree courses are available online. It’s an excellent opportunity to use online teaching methods in order to pursue further education. The Master degree makes even more sense to complete online as the participants are often already professionals in various fields.

Career Options:

The career options in Data Analytics are nearly endless. Almost all major businesses have analytics and analysis departments. Government consistently have positions for this available and working in the public sector may appeal to many. If you have a more kind hearted approach to life, there’s often many positions available at not for profit organizations who can make major use of someone with a data analytics degree.
