Anti-virus software is software for your computer that is used to detect, remove and prevent malicious content from damaging your computer.  Despite its name, anti-virus software protects your computer from more than just computer viruses.  This software typically protects your computer from malware, browser hijackers, trojan horses, worms, adware and spyware. Some common anti-virus software names are: McAfee, Norton, Webroot, Kapersky and Bitdefender.

There are four main strategies that anti-virus software usually employs.  Each strategy relies on codes and looking for deviation from the codes.
